COOPER CREEK TURTLE
Emydura macquarii emmotti

Also known as Emmott’s Turtle. Restricted to the Cooper Creek and Diamantina systems of central Australia.

Grows to an exceptionally large size, possibly because of the sporadically available abundant food supply during and following flood.

Concentrates in remaining waterholes during extended dry periods, sometimes dying in large numbers when these refugia dry completely.
