PURVIS’ TURTLE
Elseya purvisi

A male specimen from the Manning River of coastal NSW, to which this species is restricted.

It is one of the most attractive of Australia’s freshwater turtles. One member of a cryptic species pair with Elseya georgesi, its separate species status demonstrated by molecular techniques.
